Additional Information:
ASHA’s national headquarters received Gold LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, the first non-profit association in Maryland to receive this recognition. ASHA’s “green” headquarters received a 2009 Preservation Award from Peerless Rockville, a group which honors individuals, organizations, institutions and businesses which preserve or enhance Rockville’s architectural character and/or heritage. ASHA is among the recipients of the first ever EcoLeadership Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence. The award recognizes companies for their environmental sustainability practices such as waste minimization, energy demand and supply, water conservation, and employee engagement and communication. For the second year since its inception, The Gazette of Politics and Business named ASHA as one of the most exceptional businesses in Maryland. The “Exceptional 53” program honors businesses for their strong and active commitment to social responsibility, community outreach, cutting edge health-related developments, and its "great place to work" attributes that include a meaningful mission and comprehensive benefits. Recent outreach to Washington, DC metropolitan area schools yielded a very fun and informative Listen To Your Buds Safe Listening Concert for local first- and second-graders at The George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium. The event was part of ASHA’s national public health campaign, Listen To Your Buds, which educates young children about protecting their hearing from misuse of MP3 players. In collaboration with National Institutes of Health and Parents’ Choice Foundation, ASHA has hosted free children’s concerts to spread the Buds health message. Teachers and parents praise the concert series as a very effective method to help children practice good hearing health.
