Community Activities:
Discovery continuously demonstrates a commitment to philanthropy in the local community. Discovery’s CONNECT program serves to promote company-sponsored volunteer projects that engage employees, align Discovery philanthropic efforts with Discovery business objectives and make a difference.
Some of Discovery’s community service programs consist of the following initiatives:
Adopt-A-Family/ Holiday Giving Program -
Discovery employees adopted 250 local families in need, providing donations to Child Welfare Services of Montgomery County and to the Families Foremost Center.
Bright Spaces –
Partnered with Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County, Discovery opened a Bright Space for at-risk children at the Families Foremost Center in Silver Spring. The Bright Space was transformed to create an inviting atmosphere for children to play and learn.
Discovery Gets Packing –
Discovery’s Multicultural Alliance pioneered this initiative to provide local students newly recycled and eco-friendly backpacks filled with supplies. Employees worldwide participated in the effort and gathered over 2,000 backpack donations! In Silver Spring, Highland View Elementary students will have a bright start to the school year, thanks to these contributions.
Hope Kits –
In observance of Memorial Day, Discovery partnered with the National Coalition of Homeless Veterans (NCHV) to fill and distribute Hope Kits to veterans in need of support. The Hope Kits consisted of reusable tote bags containing daily personal hygiene essentials homeless veterans need to combat life on the street.
Additionally, Discovery provides sponsorships for employees to participate in charitable sporting events, as well as approved days off work allocated for community service. Discovery continues to offer opportunities for employees to get involved seasonally and on a smaller scale as well.
